Agreement on the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
The EPBD sets ambitious targets for residential buildings to reduce energy use by 16% by 2030 and by 20%-22% by 2035. Furthermore, the directive introduces the concept of Zero-Emission Buildings (ZEBs) — a standard for future constructions characterised by very low energy demand, zero on-site carbon emissions from fossil fuels, and minimal operational GHG emissions. ZEB will become the standard for new buildings and deep renovation operations as of 2030, and all buildings will need to be ZEB by 2050.
